Dodo is a two player game played on a hexagonal grid, initially set up as shown below. The two players, Red and Blue, take turns moving their own checkers, one checker per turn, starting with Red. Players are not allowed to pass.
All moves are to unoccupied cells. Players can move their checkers one cell directly forward or diagonally forward.
If at the beginning of your turn you have no moves available, you win.
Mark Steere designed Dodo in May 2021. His other games can be found at marksteeregames.com.
Level 1 plays at random. Levels 2 to 5 use Monte Carlo search with a growing number of random playouts. Level 6 searches deeply for three seconds and plays the endgame exactly.
With Confirm moves on, a move takes three taps: tap a checker, tap the cell to move to, then tap Confirm (or that cell again). Until you confirm, a tap anywhere else takes one step back, and so does Undo: first the chosen cell, then the chosen checker. A tap on another of your checkers selects that one instead, and a tap on another marked cell moves the checker there instead. With Confirm moves off, the checker moves as soon as you tap the cell.
